Israel had no legal right whatsoever to bomb Iran. It was illegal and Iran's response is entirely legal. Based on international law, particularly Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran has the right to defend itself if it is subjected to an armed attack. After Israel's strikes killed most of Iran's military leadership. Iran's right to respond militarily is recognised in principle, though the scale and targets of any retaliation must still comply with international law, including proportionality and distinction between military and civilian targets.
